Reflections on the revolution in Middlebury – AEI | Society and Culture Blog » AEIdeas

The Social Justice Warriors have degraded the college experience for the majority of reasonable people. My daughter is looking at colleges now, and she clearly views college as an annoying compliance activity required to participate in adult society. She finds liberal arts schools (like Middlebury and the one I went to) to be particularly frivolous.Your thought that applicants would be turned off by a severe response to violent protestors is not something she would agree with; in fact she prefers the University of Chicago because of its stand in favor of free speech. If Middlebury wants to improve its appeal to the majority of reasonable students (and applicants), it should not incentivize the behavior of the protestors. Of course, the converse is also true.I think she is correct to simply ignore Middlebury as irrelevant until they demonstrate otherwise.
